How to understand decimal odds

The exchanges use decimal odds. This can confuse some peope but it is quite simple when you understand them. This system of odds is called the European system. There are also British and American systems, British is the more familiar fractional system used in high street bookies and the American system involves positive and negative decimals.

The decimal system on exchanges such as Betfair and BetDAQ is really quite simple to understand. A price of 2-1 is 3.0 on the exchanges. To find the price you divide the first number by the second number and then add 1.

eg. 5-2 is (5/2)+1 = 3.5
